Privacy Policy

Effective Date: June 4, 2026

Talebound ("we," "us," or "our") is a personal storytelling and book-creation platform that helps people write their life stories, capture stories from loved ones, and order printed hardcover books. We take the privacy of your most personal content extremely seriously.

This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, how we protect it, and your rights regarding your data.

1. Information We Collect

Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and password. Your password is managed by AWS Cognito and is never stored in plain text.

Content You Create: This includes stories, memory interviews, and any notes or text you enter into the app.

Files You Upload: Documents, photos, and video recordings you upload to your private vault.

Account Settings: Your notification preferences and display name.

Memory Care Data: If you use our Memory Care features for a loved one with memory loss, we store the interview transcripts, day quality settings, and trigger preferences you configure. This data is treated with the same encryption and privacy protections as all other content.

Gift Book Contributor Data: If you invite family members to contribute to a gift book, we collect the names and email addresses of the people you invite, and the stories they submit through the contribute link.

Order Information: When you order a printed book, we collect your shipping address, the contents of the book being printed, and the payment confirmation from Stripe (we do not store full credit card numbers).

Usage Data: We use Google Analytics to understand how Talebound is used so we can improve it. This collects information such as the pages and features you view, the actions you take in the app (such as viewing pages, starting an order, or signing up), your device and browser type, and your approximate location (derived from your IP address, which Google anonymizes). When you are signed in, this usage information is associated with your account through a randomized identifier, never your name or email. We do not send your stories, photos, or any content you create to Google.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information solely to provide and improve the Talebound service:

We never sell your personal data, and we never use your stories or other content you create for advertising.

3. AI Processing

When you use AI-assisted features (story writing, interview mode, memory care prompts), your prompts and content are sent to our AI provider through a secure API connection. Our AI provider does not use data sent through their API to train their models. Your stories are never fed into the AI's learning process.

AI conversations are not stored on our servers. They exist only in your browser's memory during your session. When you navigate away, the conversation disappears. The only thing we save is the final story or content you choose to keep.

4. How We Store and Protect Your Data

Your data is stored on Amazon Web Services (AWS) infrastructure:

Your files are stored in private paths scoped to your identity. No other user can access your files or content. Each user's data is isolated at the infrastructure level by AWS Identity and Access Management. For full details, see our Security page.

5. Who Can See Your Data

Only you can see your data. Talebound is designed so that no one on our team can browse, read, or access your individual stories or files. There is no admin panel for viewing user content. There is no "backdoor."

If you create a gift book and invite family members to contribute, the people you invite can see the prompts you send them and can submit their own stories, which then appear in the gift book you assemble. You control who is invited and what is included.

6. Data Sharing

We do not sell or rent your personal data. To run and measure our own ads, we share limited activity information (such as pages visited and orders placed, never your stories or content) with Google and Meta (Facebook and Instagram). You can opt out; see "Cookies and Tracking" below.

We may share limited data only in these circumstances:

7. Cookies and Tracking

Talebound uses three kinds of cookies:

We never sell your data, and we never share your stories, photos, or other content with Google or Meta. They receive only activity information (such as pages visited and orders placed) and a randomized identifier.

You can opt out by blocking analytics and advertising cookies in your browser settings, through Google's and Meta's own ad and privacy settings, or by emailing support@taleboundbook.com. California residents may use these same methods to opt out of the sharing of their information for advertising ("Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information"). Talebound will continue to work normally.

8. Data Retention and Deletion

Your content is stored for as long as you maintain your account. If you delete individual items, they are removed from our systems. If you cancel your account, all data is permanently deleted within 30 days. This includes all stories, files, and account data. Deletion is irreversible. Book orders already submitted for printing will still be fulfilled.

9. Your Rights

You have the right to:

If you are located in the European Union, you have additional rights under GDPR including the right to data portability and the right to request erasure.

10. Children's Privacy

Talebound is not intended for use by anyone under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has created an account, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

11. Changes to This Policy

If we make significant changes to this privacy policy, we will notify you through the app or by email before the changes take effect. We will never change our core commitment: your data is yours, it is private, and we will never sell it.
